Little house, 2 Businesses, Way Too Much Stuff- How I Attempt to Make It Work
USE WHAT YOU'VE GOT
I am truly notorious for attempting to solve really any problem ever, by buying new stuff. It's fun and rewarding until.... you get home and can't sit at your kitchen table or fit your car in the garage.
So, go look around, find some stuff you don't hate, and use it! For me, this means jewelry displays and Poshmark product photography stuff but really, it holds true to anything you need to photograph at home and need it not look completely horrible.
MOCK SET UP
Yes, I turn my living room into my pretend booth space before every show. It might seem like overkill.... but trust me, "kill" would be the word of the day at any market setup if didn't do this. So, do what you gotta do!
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, DOCUMENT EVERY DETAIL
For one thing, it's helpful for future reference for yourself, plus plenty of market applications will ask for display photos!
Additionally, I put all the display setup photos on the cloud to anyone who is brave/kind enough to help me so they can just look at the photos.
EFFICIENTLY BUT EASILY
Efficient so you can find things quickly and easily. Easily so you'll actually put things back where they belong.
I got this wall mounted, customizable Elfa system at the Container Store. I also, shockingly, managed to install it all by myself.
THE FLAT LAY
Get a lot of light on whatever it is your photographing, stand on something and take the photo straight down. Works great for outfit photos.
This was taken on my laundry room floor!
Outdoor Foot Fetish of Sorts?
For whatever reason, I pretty much always take shoe photos for Poshmark outdoors. Maybe its the natural light? Maybe my feet stink. I don't know. But just always do what works for you!
TOP SECRET GENIUS IDEA
Use scrapbooking paper as flat lay backgrounds for smaller items. Ok, maybe not completely genius but I really dig it.
Poshmark is completely overrun with junk, horrible pictures, fake products and so on. I will definitely do an entire journal entry committed to Poshmark but for now, I will leave you with this. Do something, ANYTHING to make your photos stand out from the rest.
In closing I want to make it clear that I realize I am no photography genius by any stretch of the imagination. However, it is part of my business so I do the best I can to keep myself sane. Ive also gathered my other funny little tips and tricks along the way through trial and error so maybe you will find them amusing, or even helpful!
